Located in the parish of Lordelo do Ouro e Massarelos, covering an area of 1.170 m², Horta das Condominhas consists of 27 plots.

This vegetable garden encourages sustainable and organic food cultivation and promotes the circular economy through composting.

Horta das Condominhas is part of the Municipal Network of Urban Gardens, which has 13 municipal gardens covering a total of 4 hectares, where 400 composters are installed.

In addition, it is part of LIPOR’s Hortas Urbanas – Horta à Porta project, which aims to articulate the availability of various local organisations in a network that would enable a strategy for the Greater Porto Region, in the field of home composting, the promotion of organic farming and the creation of urban vegetable gardens.

Results

The approximately 400 composters installed in the vegetable gardens allow 120 tonnes of organic matter to be returned to the soil each year.

A garden that promotes organic farming and social integration, combining environmental, social and economic benefits. It is an educational center that provides opportunities for environmental education. The space also includes a pond that collects rainwater, boosting water retention and local biodiversity.
A vegetable garden, created in 2003 in the António Aroso neighborhood, has 672 m² and 13 plots for organic farming and circular economy, with composting. It promotes more sustainable practices, at the same time that it is a leisure space that promotes the physical and psychological well-being of urban gardeners.
