Presentation

In 2023, 52 photovoltaic panels were installed at Bom Pastor Elementary School, with an installed capacity of 23,66 kWp.

The panels cover an area of 116 m² and produce 35.633,41 kW/h of electricity annually, of which 51,85% is consumed by the school itself, equivalent to a reduction in annual emissions of 5,56 tonnes of CO₂.

This intervention was carried out as part of the Porto Solar project, led by the Municipality of Porto in partnership with the Agência de Energia do Porto, which consists of implementing renewable solar energy production solutions in 29 buildings in the Municipality of Porto, 25 of which are elementary schools.

Through the ‘Gamification of Renewable Energy in Schools’ initiative, part of Porto Solar, screens were placed at the entrance of schools to monitor in real time the energy production by photovoltaic panels and the school’s energy consumption, analysing the institution’s energy efficiency. Based on this data, the Agência de Energia do Porto rewards the institutions with the best energy performance.

This innovative approach not only promotes energy efficiency in schools, but also raises environmental awareness and knowledge among younger generations, preparing them for the challenges of a sustainable future.

OTHER SUGGESTIONS

40 photovoltaic panels were installed on one of the green roofs of the Falcão Elementary School. This Self-Consumption Production Unit (UPAC) has an annual production of 28,63 kW/h of electricity, which corresponds to 60% of the energy consumed by the school and is equivalent to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 7,39 tonnes per year. Through the cross-border AQUALITRANS II project, 242 photovoltaic panels were installed in 2023 at the Freixo Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), distributed across the administrative building and the building where water pre-treatment is carried out. The Self-Consumption Production Unit, with a total implementation area of 619 m², has an installed capacity of 133 kWp and an […]
The Self-Consumption Production Unit at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Sobreiras consists of 635 photovoltaic panels that produce clean energy to power the WWTP’s operations. These panels have a capacity of 387 kilowatt-peak (KWp) and an estimated production of 619 megawatt-hours (MWh) per year, representing savings of around 80.000 euros per year on the […]
