The Núcleo Rural Vegetable Garden, which forms part of the Environmental Education Centre (CE.ES) at the Núcleo Rural do Parque da Cidade, is part of the “Horta Pedagógica” project under the Municipality’s Plano Integrado de Educação-Ação para a Sustentabilidade, aimed at pre-school and elementary school children in Porto.
This project gives children the opportunity to experiment with and grow their own vegetables on a plot of farmland, using organic and sustainable practices. It also contributes to the adoption of healthier eating habits and to raise awareness of the role these ecosystems play in nature.
This vegetable garden comprises 13 plots and also features two compost bins and a greenhouse. Since 2021, the Núcleo Rural Vegetable Garden has been accessible to people with reduced mobility, following the construction of a raised plot.
