Presentation

Through the Nature Based Solutions at Falcão Elementary School project, 40 photovoltaic panels were installed on one of the school’s green roofs.

This Self-Consumption Production Unit (UPAC) has an annual production of 28.625 kW/h of electricity, which corresponds to 60% of the energy consumed by the school and is equivalent to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 7,39 tonnes per year.

The panels are installed on a BioSolar Roof, a 225m2 green roof, which promotes natural cooling of the equipment (through plant evapotranspiration), increasing its efficiency.

This intervention was carried out as part of the Porto Solar project, led by the Municipality of Porto in partnership with the Agência de Energia do Porto, which consists of implementing renewable solar energy production solutions in 29 buildings in the Municipality of Porto, 25 of which are elementary schools.

Through the ‘Gamification of Renewable Energy in Schools’ initiative, part of Porto Solar, screens were placed at the entrance of schools to monitor in real time the energy production by photovoltaic panels and the school’s energy consumption, analysing the institution’s energy efficiency. Based on this data, the Agência de Energia do Porto rewards the institutions with the best energy performance.

This innovative approach not only promotes energy efficiency in schools, but also raises environmental awareness and knowledge among younger generations, preparing them for the challenges of a sustainable future.

OTHER SUGGESTIONS

458 photovoltaic panels were installed with a total power of 208.39 kWp, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This installation is part of the Porto Solar project, which aims to promote energy efficiency and independence in 29 municipal buildings, guaranteeing the use of renewable energy.
The Agra do Amial Renewable Energy Community (REC) was implemented in 2024 with the aim of supplying and sharing electricity between the buildings that make up the REC, in a self-consumption model. The total installed power is around 127 kWp, distributed across 233 photovoltaic solar panels, of which 205 are located in the Agra do Amial […]
The installation of the 454 kWp park guarantees self-sufficiency on sunny days, powering the campus buildings and the electric vehicle park, as well as selling the surplus. With 1,228 panels on the roofs of the three reservoirs, it is a milestone in Porto's economic and environmental sustainability.
